Of Shrek

I went to Bishan Junction 8 to watch Shrek 2 with my mom today. As a big fan,my mother was really eager to catch the movie. She was especially excited to see Donkey, and his dumb jokes. And so we headed towards the cinema and caught the 4pm screening.

The movie started off like the first movie.A book in front of a black screen, and the background story to the movie.Narrated by Prince Charming(Rupert Everett),he sets out on a journey through the blistering cold moutains,to burning hot deserts,to the castle and the highest tower,to find Princess Fiona.Upon recieving the kiss from him,it will break the spell on her,and they are supposed to live happily ever after.Supposed to.As he pulled open the veil,he finds the big bad wolf lying that reading a book.To be honest,Shrek doesnt have a storyline. But then again, its a show for kids.So a lack of plot is fine. However,it does set out to tell something, and it did in the end.Anyway,Fairy Godmother(Jennifer Saunders),the mother of Prince Charming, found out about Princess Fiona(Cameron Diaz)and Shrek(Mike Myers),and went on to talk to Princess Fiona's father,King Harold(John Gleese).Though her mother,Queen Lillian(Julie Andrew)was extremely supportive of their marriage,King Harold hired the hitman,Puss in Boots(Antonio Banderas)to kill Shrek. However,Puss in Boots became friends with Shrek and Donkey(Eddie Murphy),and together they head towards Fairy Godmother's factory of potion,to get the "Happily Ever After" potion,so that Princess Fiona would love him again. The movie didnt start out very good.At least not as good as the first, when Shrek tears off a page from the book and wipes his ass with it.However,it did have a few funny moments. The ugly stepsister(Larry King)was horrendous.Shrek's good friends, mainly the three little pigs, the big bad wolf,Pinnochio and the three blind mice, have pretty significant roles in this movie. Not to mention Puss in Boots as well, which provided some of the funniest moment.Donkey not only has a great chemistry with Shrek, but also with this cat as well.Surprisingly, this movie had a few plot twists as well.(You'll know when you watch it.)The interesting characters in the movie would definitely appeal to the younger audience, while the older audience would laugh at crude jokes.Such as the bit with Pinnochio having to lie about wearing female underwear. You got to see it to believe it.)The movie spoofed lots of movie, from Spiderman to Mission Impossible, from The Lord of the Rings to Godzilla. You name it.Look out for the giant Ginger Bread man!!Also others like Sleeping Beauty,Jack and his Beanstalk, and even the reality TV show,"COPS".(That was extremely funny.)Aside from the comedies,Shrek does have some emotional parts. For example,Shrek wakes up in the middle of the night(Half naked, mind you.),and read Fiona's diary. It was a sad moment, when he read about how much she wished for a Prince Charming, and marry him.Its heartwrenching to see how Shrek had to leave Princess Fiona to Prince Charming. There's a line in the movie, which goes,"Can you at least pretend to like my father?Remember Shrek,i changed for you."(Or something like that.)Fairy Godmother tried to convince Shrek to let Princess Fiona go,and said,"If you love her,let her go."Which i can relate to very much. This movie not only provides comical moments, but also emotional moments as well, which was much higher than the previous movie. This movie might not have been better than the last, but its sure on par with it.It is a must watch for the summer movie fest.
