Of Insomnia
Ever had an insomnia?Couldnt sleep at night?Time wears on,and hours go by without you being able to close your eyes? When you sit on your bed, stare at the clock and tell yourself that it is too late for yesterday and too early for tomorrow?I used to have those problems, but never really thought about it until i saw "Insomnia" just minutes ago.Wow.What a great movie.I saw it while i was in Taiwan once, didnt like it really.Saw it again, and was totally blown away by it.I guess, ive never really had the problem of insomnia before i watched it for the first time. Now that im in JC,insomnia seems to be a norm.Or rather,i chose to be an insomaniac.Burning the midnight oils to finish studying something, doing some essays just to meet the dateline has became a daily routine since forever ago.Come to think about it,its really scary to have insomnia. You cannot open your eyes, because you want to sleep. But you cannot close them, because you see thoughts, and they keep coming till you have to open your eyes again. The film, directed by Christopher Nolan,(Momento)this film tells of Will Dormer,a famous Los Angeles detective, brought to Alaska to investigate a homocide case of a 17 year old girl.On a mission to track down the murderer in a fog,he accidentally shoots his partner,Hap Eckhart. The only witness to this, was the murderer himself,Walter Finch.Walter begins to torment Will,by calling him everytime he tries to sleep. In Alaska,it never goes dark. And Will suffered from a serious case of insomnia, and Walter used that as his psychological weapon against him.Walter killed the girl, and he witnessed Will's accidental murder of his partner. If Will were to tell people about Walter, his career ends.Decisions,decisions,decisions.What would you do? Its a psychological thriller, its scary if you put yourself in Will's shoes. There was a scene, with him trying desperately to cover his windows with blankets and pillows,to keep the sunlight out.Another scene was with him driving on a stretch of empty road, rubbing his eyes and a blurry vision, only to drive off the road from an invisible truck. He's tired, and he havent slept for 6 days.Isnt it scary to live that way? This movies focuses not so much on the murder itself, but a grand plan that follows. Will only found out that Walter is the killer, when Walter told him that he saw him shooting his partner. But he didnt have evidence to proof that Walter killed the girl. There's a scene, with Walter being questioned about his relationship with the girl, and he's right inside the station, but nobody, not Will, can touch him.Because he taped a conversation of them on a tape, and called it his "Trum Card".It was a good movie,Al Pacino was great,Robin Williams was great as a psychotic author. This film got me thinking about the rights and the wrongs. Will you do anything there is to prove something you believe in?Good movie.Watch it.
Quotes of the Day:
Dormer,"You don't get it do you Finch? You're my job. You're what I'm paid to do. You're about as mysterious to me as a blocked toilet is to a fucking plumber. Reasons for doing what you did? Who gives a fuck?"
Rachel Clement,"I can't judge. There are two kinds of people in Alaska: those who were born here and those who come here to escape something. I wasn't born here.I guess it's about what you thought was right at the time. Then, what you're willing to live with."
Detective Ellie Burr,"A good cop can't sleep because he's missing a piece of the puzzle. And a bad cop can't sleep because his conscience won't let him."
Dormer,"Randy, this whole thing you're doing, you know, this "fuck the world" act. Now that might work with your mama. It might even work with a couple of these local cops, who have known you long enough to figure you're too dumb ever to kill anyone without leaving a couple of witnesses and a signed confession. Ain't gonna work with me, because I know things, you understand? I know you beat your girlfriend. I know she was seeing somebody else. Somebody she might have even gone to see after she walked out on you Friday night. Now, you're gonna tell us who that somebody might be? Or are you so fucking stupid, you're going to leave yourself as the last person to see Kay Connell alive?"
Finch," You and I share a secret. We know how easy it is to kill someone. That ultimate taboo. It doesn't exist outside our own minds."
Dormer,"We better find out where this came from."
Detective Ellie Burr,"I tried. Mrs. Connell doesn't know, her friends didn't know."
Dormer,"Have you tried the jewelry stores? Small things, remember? The second you're about to dismiss something, think about it. Look at it again."

Song of the Moment---When a Real Man by Alicia Keys
Look Through the Reflection of the Eyes that was set Ablazed
Eyes are the windows to a hidden world.
Opens out into a space unknown.
Ablazed are the eyes, burning up the soul.
Look into this utopia,to this wonderland we go.
