Of the Last First Time
I let myself down on my parent's new couch in front of their television and switched on the television.God,it was a long day.Why not treat myself to a little fruit by the tv?So mom got me some fruit and i started munching on them while surfing through the channels.News,news and more news.God.The 9 O'clock period is full of news prgrammes.Picked a great time man.Way to go.(Sarcasm intended.)Personally,i hate watching the news.Elections,killings,bombings,(With that said,i'll like to observe one minute of silence to those who perished in the train bombing incident in Madrid,Spain.)politicians,yada yada.We do have to keep up with our general knowledge,learn more about the world.But if watching the news means that i have question the world about where love has gone,i'll rather watch Suria.Anyhow,so i changed the channel to channel 5.(My favorite channel off cable.)Yay!American Idol!Cheers for the pen salesman who got through to the finals.So i sat there and watched American Idol as time wore on.This advertisement popped up on screen during one of the numerous commercial breaks and particularly,it caught my attention.I am one of those guys who will jeer at commercials in cinemas,and when the movie suddenly stops at the climax for advertisements.Which is why i love HBO and Star Movies.No commercial interruptions baby.There are only a handful of advertisements out there are actually funny enough for a few chuckles here and there.But this one caught my attention.Hmm.To be honest,though it did catch my attention,i dont even know what it was advertising for.At least i dont remember.It started with a old lady climbing onto a helicopter.Then it took off from the landing platform and circled around a building.The lady was scared at first and she grasped the hand of another passenger.Soon,she was enjoying the view of the world outside the window of the helicopter.Then the screen faded to black and a line of words appeared that says,"When was the last time you did something for the first time?" or something close to the mark.I know it is an old advertisement but i guess i wasnt paying much attention to it most of the time it aired.Anyway,i thought about what i just saw,then started questioning myself about the last time i did something for the first time.Hmm.Where to begin?Lets start with the firsts.I first breathed the air of a emergency room in 1986.I first took a plane in 1991.I first attended school in the same year.First cartoon that i ever fell in love with was Doraemon.The first time i ever had a crush for a girl was back in primary school.The first time i was totally alone was when i first attended Secondary school in 1999.The first time i crossed the Millenium Mark in 2000.The first time i fell in love was in 2003.To be honest,i dont remember the last first time that i had.In fact,there are so many first-times everyday that people just dont notice of.The first time you skip school,first time you pee your pants.The first time you kissed a girl.The first time you get slapped by a girl.Which probably happened right after the kiss.Hahaha.These are just some of the things we tend to remember and take note of.The so called,"More important First-times".However,some intimate and yet more important things are build up each day.The first time you have a conversation with this person,the first time you talked to that person.The first time you had this feeling for a certain person.The first time a certain thought comes to your mind.These feelings and thoughts etc,are often neglected and forgotten by most because they do not stand a significant role when classifiying the various components of "First-times" and of course,life itself.There are little things in life that we should indeed,take note of.I have a friend,who was obsessed with the ladies,that he forgot the word,"Respect".He was so focused on obtaining self satisfaction through his "First-times" that he forgot about the important word,"Respect".I will not elaborate on that.However,my point is,that we should not be overwhelmed and overpowered by the desired to obtain that "First-time".Make a mistake?It's all right.I still remember the first time i failed a subject back in Primary school.I think it was Mathematics.That was my first time failing the subject,in fact a subject.The important thing is that we shouldnt focus so much on that fact that it was the first time we failed,but concentrate more on making sure that it is the first and the last time that happens.Everyday,we learn a lesson.A brand new lesson.And these lessons are learnt through the little pieces of life that passes us by unheard and unsung.These are some of the most important lesson that should be taken note of and grabbed hold of.And to gain precious knowledge through these lessons is the most important thing one can get.What is the last first time you had?It might not be a big deal really.However,to grab hold on little things in life and make sure you see the lesson it is trying to teach you,THATS a big deal.When we succeeded in something for the first time,we should make sure that it will not be the last first thing you did,but rather do make sure that it will never be the last first successful thing you did.Make everytime,the first time.When you encounter failure,who cares if it is the first time you failed or not.Make it the last.When it comes to the context of love.This so called "Rule",does not apply.When in love,one tends to go head over heels.Im not sure about you guys,but when i see her i fall in love with her all over again.And everytime,is the first time to me.And everytime we part,that will become the last first time.No matter how i resist,she will always be the last first time i know.Everytime is the first,and make every first failures the last.Just a thought.:)
